Installing the Printer Drivers

This section provides instruction on how to install the printer driver. The printer drivers are installed using the CD-ROM based installer which is included with the printer. Depending on the country the printer is delivered, the CD-ROM label and graphical interface may differ slightly. The printer drivers are available for all popular operating systems. Using the latest printer driver version is highly recommended.

The installer on the CD-ROM automatically recognizes the language setting of your Windows operating system and provides printer localized drivers and documentation if they are available.

To download the latest printer drivers and utility software, visit www.kyocera.com/w2k/ or your regional Kyocera Mita web site.

Installing Windows 95/98 and NT 4.0/2000 Printer Drivers

  1. Insert the CD-ROM supplied with the printer in your CD ROM drive. Wait until the CD begins auto-play and displays the main screen.

  1. If the CD-ROM urges you to select a language, select the one appropriate for you.

  2. Click Install Drivers. The setup wizard begins and guide you through the installation of the driver.

  3. On the Select a device model screen, select the appropriate printer model to install the printer driver.

  4. On the Device connection screen (Figure 1), select the connection type. Although Network seems like the obvious choice, Windows treats some network connections, such as KPrint ports and LPR ports, as Local ports. The next several screen shots explain the various options.

Click the Add LPR Port button. The Add LPR Port button will be available only if the correct protocols and services are installed. If the Add LPR Port button is not available, select LPT1 and continue with the installer to complete the driver installation (go to Step 6). Then review the section on Windows NT 4.0/2000 LPR Printing for complete LPR instructions.

The Add LPR compatible printer window (Figure 5) will open.

  1. Continue with the installer until reaching the Begin Installation screen. This screen allows you to confirm your selections. Click Next to install the driver.

  2. Once the driver installation is complete, the Setup Complete screen will be displayed. Click Finish. In some cases the installer may prompt you to restart your system. This occurs when a required file was in use and could not be updated during installation.
